Wireworld Cable Technology announced the availability of Helicon 16, a speaker cable that delivers accurate sound reproduction, in a small and easy to use design that overcomes limitations of conventional designs. Combining the performance advantages of Wireworld’s patented DNA Helix design in an amazingly light, flexible and affordable cable, the Helicon 16 speaker cables were originally designed for internal speaker wiring and DIY applications.

“The early response to the Helicon 16 cable has been phenomenal,” says Wireworld’s President and Founder David Salz. “We originally intended this cable for use as an internal speaker wire, however it proved to be a truly excellent external speaker cable as well. These elegant cables preserve musical details and dynamics far better than many full sized audiophile cables.”

Helicon 16’s two flat insulated conductors are stacked together then twisted and enclosed within a thin clear jacket. The two flat conductors house 16 parallel copper strands arranged in eight pairs. The small gaps between those pairs are essential, because they create an efficient pathway for electromagnetic signal energy, improving audible and measurable fidelity. Helicon 16 is also extremely easy to strip and connect to internal or external speaker terminals. The cables are available with Oxygen-Free copper conductors for the basic configuration and the high-end version offers the best available Ohno Continuous Cast 7N copper conductors.

As Wireworld adds, the conductor strands in most speaker cables are twisted and spiraled to create flexibility, but this causes electromagnetic loss called eddy current resistance. When the strands follow a twisted uneven path, the field is weakened, causing blurring and coloration of the sound. Eddy current losses are the main reason why music that has passed through cable sounds less detailed and lifelike than the original signal.

The most effective way to minimize electromagnetic losses in cable is to have multiple strands of both polarities running close together and completely parallel — a design that isn’t possible with conventional flexible cable designs. Realizing this limitation through decades of research, Wireworld developed the DNA Helix cable geometry (U.S. Patent 8,569,627), which enables flexible cable to have closely spaced and completely parallel conductors. “The DNA Helix technology allows music passing through Helicon 16 speaker cable to sound distinctly cleaner, clearer and closer to the source than with conventional speaker cable,” the company adds.
